Interview:
Brock Harris,
co-writer/director,
"Cottonmouth"
Co-written and directed by Austin-based filmmaker Brock Harris, the western revenge saga Cottonmouth pits an honest man falsely accused of being an outlaw against the conspirators responsible for his illicit arrest and imprisonment. Played by Yellowstone and 1883’s Martin Sensmeier, Ed Dante is arrested on his wedding day to his beloved Sophia (Alyssa Wapanatâhk) and turned over to Dr. Victor Cain (Ron Perlman), a vicious territorial prison warden and a physician with a unethical interest in the human body. With Ed under lock and key, the unscrupulous businessmen who framed Ed move forward with seizing control of the Oklahoma Territory saloon owned by Sophia and her mother. But no matter many times he is beaten, tortured, and drugged, Ed remains focused on escaping Cain’s clutches and reuniting with Sophia. Cottonmouth also stars Jonathan Sadowski as Ed’s traitorous business partner Frank Ferri, Eric Nelsen as Ferri’s partner-in-crime Billy Dunn, and Esai Morales as Ed’s cellmate Abe. Brock Harris, who wrote Cottonmouth with Jared Bonner, appears as Butch Cassidy. The film is titled after both the nickname Ed earns during his arduous bid to escape and an event that occurred early in Harris’ life. Inspired by The Count of Monte Cristo, Cottonmouth is now available for digital and on-demand viewing. Austin-based actor-turned-filmmaker Brock Harris previously directed the 2022 mockumentary Dance Dads and the 2021 thriller Wild Game, which he wrote with his creative partner Jared Bonner. The San Antonio-born Brock Harris also appeared in the films Last Shootout, My Husband’s Secret Wife, Sam, Love on the Run, and G.B.F.
