Brian Villalobos,
"In a Cold Vein"
You may not know Brian Villalobos’ name but you know his face. In recent years, the Austin-based actor has probably appeared in more commercials than anyone not named Patrick Mahomes or Kevin Hart. But the Orlando-born Villalobos—who studied journalism at the University of Texas—also has a rich resume of film roles that is the envy of any actor trying to make a go of it in Austin. In the past year, Villalobos has appeared in the found-footage chiller Man Finds Tape, the border drama Broken Land with David Morse, and the Comedy Mothership documentary Nighthawks. Villalobos currently stars in In a Cold Vein, which reunites him with his Thirst writer/director Eric Owen, the Black Pistol Fire drummer turned filmmaker. In the thriller shot in and around Austin, Villalobos plays Phil, one of two henchmen charged with abducting and murdering Evan Gamble’s Dean for reasons unbeknownst to the husband and father. In a Cold Vein is available for digital/on-demand viewing beginning July 17. Austin-based Brian Villalobos previously starred in In a Cold Vein writer/director Eric Owen’s 2023 disaster-themed psychological thriller Thirst. He also earned rave reviews for the one-hander Man Goes on Rant, which was directed by Nighthawks’ Peter Curtis Pardini. Villalobos also has appeared in Richard Linklater’s rotoscoped Apollo 10 1/2 : A Space Age Childhood, the comedy Accidental Texan with Thomas Haden Church, the Scare Package segment “Horror Hypothesis,” Noah Segan’s vampire yarn Blood Relatives, and the Elizabeth Olsen 2023 fact-based miniseries Love and Death. He starred opposite his wife Akasha Villalobos in the 2015 slasher Last Girl Standing. He also has lent his voice to several video games, including as Lodi in last year’s “Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate.” Brian Villalobos will next be seen in an untitled film based on The Man in the Iron Mask, the thriller What Did You Do?, and the upcoming TV series Groundbreaking.
