The hustle culture, the gig economy, and the anti-union marketplace comes under intense scrutiny in Grind, writers/directors Brea Grant and Ed Dougherty’s horror comedy anthology that explores working for a living and living for work in the 2020s. Grind features four segments—the Grant-directed MLM and Delivery and the Dougherty-directed Content Moderation and Union Meeting—that combines workplace politics, sociopolitical commentary, and blood and gore with a surrealistic touch. Grind also includes the Chelsea Stardust-directed wraparounds focusing on the fictional retail and e-commerce company DRGN that makes life hell for its employees and contract workers. The cast features Barbara Crampton, Rob Huebel, Christopher Rodriquez Marquette, Jessika Van, Ify Nwadiwe, and James Urbaniak. Grind screens at 10:30 p.m. March 12, 5:45 p.m. March 15, and 10:45 p.m. March 18 at the Alamo South Lamar during the SXSW Film & TV Festival. UT alum Brea Grant previously directed 2022’s Torn Hearts, 2020’s 12 Hour Shift, 2013’s Best Friends Forever, and episodes of The CW sci-fi series Pandora. The Marshall native appeared in several episodes of Friday Night Lights and Dexter and costarred in such genre films as Rob Zombie's Halloween II, Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival, Beyond the Gates, Applecart (aka Dead Night), After Midnight, and the Austin-shot chillers Dead Awake, Sleep No More, and Apartment 413.
