Interview:
Brian Taylor,
co-writer/director,
"Hellboy: The Crooked Man"
Thirteen years after putting the pedal to the metal for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Austin-based filmmaker Brian Taylor returns with another supernatural comic-book chiller, Hellboy: The Crooked Man. An adaptation of the Mike Mignola-penned 2008 graphic novel, and unconnected to the previous films in the franchise, Hellboy: The Crooked Man pits the half-human, half-demon superhero against the titular collector of souls for the Devil. Set in the late 1950s, Hellboy (The Strain's Jack Kesy) and his Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.) sidekick Bobbie Jo Song (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’sAdeline Rudolph) find themselves searching the Appalachian Mountains for an escaped demonic spider. They soon cross paths with Tom Ferrell (Yellowstone's Jefferson White), a World War II veteran who years earlier dabbled in witchcraft and survived an encounter with The Crooked Man (Martin Bassindale). Still fearful of the power The Crooked Man exerts, Tom enlists the help of Hellboy and Bobbie Jo to vanquish the Devil’s emissary. The cast also includes Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, the witch who introduced the young Tom Ferrell to the dark arts, and Joseph Marcell as Rev. Nathaniel Armstrong Watts, a local holy man eager to see The Crooked Man pay for his sins. Leaning heavily into its horror elements, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is now available for digital/VOD viewing and will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD on Dec. 17. Brian Taylor co-directed Crank, Crank: High Voltage, Gamer, and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance with Mark Neveldine. Taylor also wrote and directed the Nicolas Cage-Selma Blair horror comedy Mom and Dad and served as a writer, director and executive producer of the Syfy black comedy series Happy! Aired: Nov. 20, 2024. Web site: https://www.facebook.com/hellboymovie/ |
