Interview:
Ben Leonberg,
co-writer/director,
"Good Boy"
![]() Ben Leonberg did not know when he adopted his dog Indy that his beloved fur baby was destined to become a film star. But after making several short films built around Indy, Leonberg took a gamble and co-wrote a supernatural chiller told from a dog’s perspective. Three years in the making, Good Boy follows Indy moves to the farmhouse his master Todd inherits from his late grandfather, who died under mysterious circumstances. A supernatural force known as The Shape follows Todd and Indy from the city to the country. Indy senses The Shape’s malevolent presence in and around the farmhouse, prompting him to protect the increasingly ailing Todd from whatever The Shape wants. Good Boy, which is shot at Indy’s eye level to capture the dog’s perspective of the horrifying events, features Shane Jensen as the voice of Todd and horror icon Larry Fessenden as Todd’s grandfather. Good Boy screens during the SXSW Film & TV Festival at 9:30 p.m. March 8 at the Alamo South Lamar, 11:45 a.m. March 10 at the Alamo South Lamar, and at 11:45 a.m. March 14 at the Hyatt Regency. Co-written with Alex Cannon, Good Boy represents Ben Leonberg’s feature-length directorial debut after making several short films starting Indy. Posted: March 8, 2025.
