aGLIFF Prism 37
The All Genders, Lifestyles, and Identities Film Festival’s Prism 37 runs Aug. 21-25 at various Austin venues, including the AFS Cinema, the Alamo Drafthouse Mueller, the Galaxy Theatres Austin, and the Violet Crown Cinema. Prism 37’s LGBTQ+ programming begins Aug. 21 with the opening night narrative feature Rent Free, an Austin-shot comedy co-written and directed by local filmmaker Fernando Andrés (Prism 35 selection Three Headed Beast). Prism 37 closes Aug. 25 with the comedy American Schemers. The festival features three centerpiece films: the medical marijuana documentary Join the Club and the high school sports narrative dramas Riley and Rivière. The Queer Black Voices Fund dinner on Aug. 22 includes screenings of made shorts by this year’s fund recipients and a retrospective screening of the 2004 Anthony Mackie drama Brother by Brother by filmmaker and fund mentor Rodney Evans. Jean Rollin’s 1979 chiller Fascination and the 2004 high school satire Saved! round out the retrospective selections. Prism 27’s lineup also includes the narrative features The Astronaut Lovers, Chuck Chuck Baby, Duino, Eudaimonia, Extremely Unique Dynamic, In the Summers, Light Light Light, Perfect Endings, The Senator, This Place, and Tops; the documentaries as well as the documentaries Bulletproof: A Lesbian's Guide to Surviving the Plot, Desire Lines, and S/He Is Still Her/e; and various shorts and music video packages.
