![]() The Austin Film Society's May 2025 programming at the AFS Cinema is highlighted by the series This Nation's Saving Grace: Discoveries From the Golden Age of British Cinema, featuring Hell Drivers in 35mm, Beat the Girl, The Small World of Sammy Lee, and All Night Long. Keeping on the other side of the pond, the Queer Cinema: Lost & Found series bring the Dirk Bogarde's 1961 British drama Victim to the AFS Cinema. Special screenings include The Phantom of the Opera with a live score by Invincible Czars; the Ukrainian war documentary In the Rearview featuring a virtual Q&A with director Maciek Hamela; a retrospective screening of the 1973 drama The Spook Who Sat by the Door with director Ivan Dixon's daughter Doris Nomathandé Dixon in attendance; the Raza Cósmica package of Latinax- and BIPOC-made sci-fi and speculative shorts; and the Doc Nights presentation of An Army of Women, a documentary about the class action lawsuit filed by area rape victims against the Austin Police Department and District Attorney’s office, with three plaintiffs and a representative of Austin Police Department’s Head of Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Units in attendance. New releases include The Shrouds, Magic Farm, Blue Sun Palace, and Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted. Repertory screenings include Breaking Glass, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Él, The Mystery of Chess Boxing, Princess Mononoke, Ran, Valley Girl, and A Woman is a Woman. Lates selections comprise of Going Down, Love & Pop, No Mercy, No Future, and The Tragedy of Man.
