January 2025 Programming
The Austin Film Society's January 2025 programming at the AFS Cinema is highlighted by the series Pre-Code Mania, featuring four films made before the implementation of Hollywood's so-called content-restrictive "Hays Code" in 1934. Special screenings include Nasty, a documentary about Romanian tennis player Ilie Năstase with director Tudor Giurgiu in attendance, and Everything is Stolen, a non-fiction film inspired by the poetry of Austin native and Boyhood star Ellar Coltrane, with director Kevin Ford in attendance. New documentaries include Dahomey, Ernest Cole: Lost and Found, Soundtrack to a Coup D'Etat, The Taste of Mango, and the Ani DiFranco documentary 1-800-On-Her Own. Repertory selections include Black Sabbath, The Bloody Lady, Candy Mountain, Lola, Once Upon a Time in the West, Mulholland Drive, Rashomon, The Wages of Fear, and the Paper Cuts screening of The Wounded Man. Lates include Roadkill, Tomie, and Yokohama BJ Blues. The Queer Cinema: Lost & Found series brings Greg Araki's 1987 rarity Three Bewildered People in the Night to the AFS Cinema.
