August 2026 Programming
The Austin Film Society's August 2026 programming at the AFS Cinema is highlighted by the series Somewhere Else, Always: Restless Women and the City and three films directed by Andrei Tarkovsky (Andrei Rublev, Mirror, Solaris). The AFS Cinema screens all five episodes of the HBO Max series The Yogurt Shop Murders with Austin-based documentarian Margaret Brown in attendance. New releases and Best of the Fests selections include Barrio Triste, Bouchra, Dreams in Nightmares, The Samurai and the Prisoner, Two Seasons, Two Strangers, and Idiots, with Austin-based director Macon Blair in attendance for select showings. Retrospective screenings include Boyhood, Ganga & Hess, Meantime, Mildred Pierce, My Sassy Girl, Mysterious Skin, No Picnic, The Piano, and the Lates selections Welcome II the Terrordome and Visitor Q. Director David Alvarado attends the Aug. 12 screening of American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez and The Silent Light performs its heavy metal score to the 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan Arc on Aug. 21.
