Interview:
Andreas Streuli,
writer/director,
"Central and Remote"
Written and directed by Austin-based filmmaker Andreas Streuli, the drama Central and Remote explores what it means to be a creative in a city that is becoming more and more expensive to live and work in. Streuli focuses on how the stagnant relationship between Austin couple Isabel and Nicholas irrevocably changes when Nicholas’ former work colleague Lee temporarily stays at their house. Isabel (KarieAnn Randol) has abandoned her career in journalism for a safe job in tech that provides her with a good salary and significant career opportunities. While she no longer harbors an interest in writing, Isabel cannot hide her frustrations that her filmmaker boyfriend Nicholas remains stuck in a creative rut, squandering his days as a ride-share driver. She sees too much of Nicholas in Lee, a homeless musician without a penny to his name. As Lee struggles to earn his rent, Nicholas cannot help but reflect on his own artistic ambitions. Central and Remote screens at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25,-Jan. 27 at the Hyperreal Film Club. Austin-based filmmaker Andreas Streuli, a curriculum developer at Film Kids, makes his feature-length directorial debut with Central and Remote.
