Interview:
Alexandre O. Philippe,
director,
"Chain Reactions"
Directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, the documentary Chain Reactions dissects the impact, influence, legacy, and continuing relevance of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from the perspective of author Stephen King, actor Patton Oswalt, directors Takashi Miike and Karyn Kusama, and film critic and programmer Alexandra Heller-Nicholas. Each commentator receives a chapter to breakdown Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel’s 1974 Austin-shot horror classic, discuss the film’s effect on their life and career, and contextualize its gory proceedings as an indictment of the American dream gone nightmare. Chain Reactions, which premiered locally at last year’s Fantastic Fest, opened Oct. 3 in Austin theaters and will be available for digital/VOD viewing on Oct. 21. Alexandre O. Philippe previously directed the film-themed documentaries William Shatner: You Can Call Me Bill, Lynch/Oz, Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist, Memory: The Origins of Alien, 78/52, Doc of the Dead, and The People vs. George Lucas. His next documentary is Kim Novak’s Vertigo.
