"Revival"
Adapted from the 2012 comic-book series by artist Mike Norton and Hack/Slash co-creator Tim Seeley, the SyFy Channel’s new horror drama Revival represents the first major TV series from Aaron B. Koontz’s Austin-based genre boutique production company Paper Street Pictures. Revival finds a rural Wisconsin town under quarantine weeks after almost 50 people returned from the dead on New Year’s Day for reasons unknown. Known as the Revivers, the formerly dead look, act, and behave like living, breathing, everyday townsfolks—except that they heal almost immediately after sustaining serious injury and appear to be immortal. Unsurprisingly, some of the Revivers’ friends and family view them with fear and suspicion, and it is down to Sheriff Wayne Cypress (JAG's David James Elliott) to maintain law and order in Wausau. What Sheriff Cypress does not know is that his youngest daughter, Martha “Em” Cypress (newcomer Romy Weltman), is a Reviver brought to life after her murder at the hands of an unknown assailant. “Em” teams up with her sister, Deputy Sheriff Dana Cypress (Wynonna Earp and Letterkenny’s Melanie Scrofano), to track down her murderer, resulting in an investigation that threatens to further tear Wausau apart. In addition to JAG’s David James Elliott, Revival stars Station Eleven’s Andy McQueen as CDC scientist Dr. Ibrahim Ramin. Wrestler CM Punk stars guests in Season 1 of Revival as Wausau crime boss Anthony “Tony” Check. Revival premiered June 12 on Syfy Channel, with new episodes of the 10-episode Season 1 airing every Thursday. Season 1 episodes of Revival are also available to stream at Peacock. Co-writer/director Aaron B. Koontz previously directed The Pale Door, and Camera Obscura and co-created and co-directed the anthology horror comedies Scare Package and Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge. He is the CEO and founder of the Austin-based genre boutique production company Paper Street Pictures. Productions include the anthology horror streaming series Tales from the Void and the films 15 Things You Didn’t Know About Bigfot, The Artifice Girl, Blood Relatives, A Creature Was Stirring, Old Man, The Pizzagate Massacre, The Requin, Sorry About the Demon, Trim Season, and Revealer, directed by Revival’s co-creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer Luke Boyce and written by Hack/Slash and Revival comic book co-creator Tim Seeley. Paper Street Picture’s next production, writer/director Chris Stuckmann’s Shelby Oaks, which recently underwent reshoots in advance of its Oct. 3 theatrical release via Neon. Aired: July 2, 2025.
